Job Title: Mechanical Engineer – (Precision Packaging & Micro-Mechanics)
Location: Jerusalem
Job Type: Full-Time
Experience Level: 7+ Years
Reports to: Mechanical Team Lead
About The Role
We are looking for a motivated and creative Mechanical Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary engineering team, working on the mechanical development of our fiber-to-chip connectivity solution for silicon photonics. This is a hands-on role supporting the PhotonicPlug platform—a novel approach to scalable and manufacturable photonic packaging.
As part of the team, you will contribute to the mechanical design, analysis, prototyping, and testing of high-precision micro-mechanical components for optical assemblies. You'll gain exposure to the full product lifecycle, from concept through to high-volume manufacturing, in close collaboration with experts in photonics, semiconductors, and thermal systems.
This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-moving startup and work at the intersection of mechanics, optics, and electronics.
Responsibilities
• Design and model mechanical components and opto-mechanical assemblies using CAD (SolidWorks)
• Support development of fiber alignment and packaging solutions for silicon photonics
• Perform tolerance analysis and contribute to DFM/DFX activities for high-precision parts
• Assist with thermal and structural simulations (using FEA tools such as Ansys)
• Support prototyping, lab validation, and mechanical testing of new assemblies
• Collaborate with suppliers for tooling, prototyping, and production-scale manufacturing
• Document and communicate design intent, validation results, and technical decisions
Qualifications
Must-Haves:
• B.Sc in Mechanical Engineering (M.Sc a plus)
• 7+ years of hands-on mechanical design experience in a precision or high-tech environment
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and tolerance analysis
• Experience using SolidWorks or similar CAD software
• Exposure to thermal or structural analysis tools (e.g., Ansys, COMSOL)
• Passion for working in cross-disciplinary teams and learning new technologies
Preferred:
• Experience in micro-mechanics, precision assemblies, or opto-mechanical systems
• Knowledge of packaging for photonics, semiconductors, or electro-optic devices
• Familiarity with adhesive selection, thermal interface materials, and cleanroom processes
