Role Summary

Dondy is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to take hands-on technical ownership of its core platform: the Shopify app, WhatsApp infrastructure, automation flows, AI chatbot, inbox, and related integrations.

What You Will Own

You will be the primary technical owner of Dondy's product surface: Shopify app, WhatsApp infrastructure, automation flows, AI chatbot, inbox, and integrations. Every responsibility below is scoped against that same system set, so it is listed once here rather than repeated in every section.

Delivery

• Lead technical design, estimation, implementation, testing, deployment, and post-release validation for complex features and improvements.

• Break down ambiguous technical and product problems into clear implementation plans, surfacing risks, dependencies, and trade-offs early.

• Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, maintainable, and aligned with merchant needs and business priorities.

Architecture & Technical Strategy

• Design extensible, secure, and performant architecture that supports growth across markets, languages, merchant sizes, and WhatsApp usage volume.

• Set technical direction across backend systems, Shopify integrations, WhatsApp API infrastructure, AI automation, AWS infrastructure, CI/CD, and observability.

• Identify technical debt, scalability risks, and cost/performance trade-offs, and help leadership evaluate build-vs-buy and feasibility decisions.

Code Quality & Release Reliability

• Write production-ready code and review pull requests to a consistent standard.

• Define and improve practices for testing, code review, CI/CD, observability, and deployment discipline.

• Improve release safety through feature flags, phased rollouts, rollback plans, and post-release monitoring.

• Lead root-cause analysis on complex incidents and convert findings into durable fixes, not one-off patches.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Translate technical concepts clearly for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Work with Merchant Success & Product, QA, Customer Experience, Sales, and leadership to clarify requirements and define test coverage.

• Investigate recurring merchant-facing technical pain points and drive fixes that reduce support volume.

• Communicate progress, blockers, risks, and system health proactively, without waiting to be asked.

Leadership, Mentorship & Founder Transition

• Mentor other engineers through pairing, design review, and constructive PR feedback.

What You Bring

Must Have

• Strong software engineering background: high-quality code, PR review, architecture evaluation, and technical decision-making.

• Solid experience with backend systems, APIs, third-party integrations, cloud infrastructure (ideally AWS), CI/CD, and production monitoring.

• Comfort troubleshooting production issues using logs, metrics, traces, and structured root-cause analysis.

• Experience designing for reliability, security, scalability, and maintainability, not just shipping features.

• Experience working directly with Product, QA, Customer Experience, Sales, or similar cross-functional partners.

• Clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Practical, hands-on use of AI tools in day-to-day engineering work.

• A track record of owning outcomes end-to-end, not just tickets.

Strongly Preferred

• Hands-on experience with Shopify app development, or a comparable e-commerce platform's app ecosystem.

• Experience with messaging infrastructure, WhatsApp Business API, or customer communication platforms.

• Experience building or maintaining AI-powered product features in production.

• Experience with high-volume, event-driven systems: queues, webhooks, background jobs.

Nice to Have

• Experience evaluating build-vs-buy, cost optimization, or similar technical/commercial trade-offs.

• Prior experience mentoring engineers or stepping into a tech lead role.

• Startup or small-team experience where you were the primary or sole senior engineer.
