Recreation Department - Part-Time/Seasonal Park Attendant

Hourly Rate: $13.50

General Definition of Work

Performs manual and semiskilled work on a variety of assignments and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the Recreation Director.

Essential Functions

• Displays a welcoming, friendly and positive demeanor toward guests and coworkers; promotes teamwork and a positive perception of the Recreation Department

• Answers phones, sorts, files, and maintains records

• Routinely cleans, empties trash, sweeps, mops and performs other custodial tasks in park buildings and on park grounds

• Assists with special events as assigned

• Ensures facilities, playground and shelters are clean and safe for the public

• Keeps bathrooms, shelters, Splash Pad and other areas of the Park clean and free of trash and debris

• Operates and monitors Splash Pad; balances water pH; ensures guests are following rules and regulations to minimize or eliminate hazardous situations

• Assists in monitoring and enforcing department policies pertaining to threatening weather

• Routinely checks Splash Pad water levels, cleans filters, and makes sure that drains are clear of objects and debris

• Reports any unsafe condition or equipment malfunction throughout the Park to the Recreation Director

• Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

General knowledge of the safe use, operation and preventive maintenance of the equipment to which assigned; skill in the use of equipment to which assigned; ability to understand and follow written and oral instruction; ability to communicate clearly and concisely; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions; ability to lift heavy articles; ability to work flexible hours and varied shifts, including weekends as necessary; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the general public.

Education And Experience

Less than high school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements

This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting and occasionally requires sitting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).

Special Requirements

Valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia, may be required.
