Full job description
Original listing · kept for referenceWe are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Team Leader to lead a team of engineers in the design and development of complex, high-precision mechanical systems for the optical and opto-mechanical field. You will own the full design lifecycle — from concept to production drawings — while coordinating across optical design, structural and thermal analysis disciplines, and external manufacturing partners.
This is a hands-on leadership role that requires deep technical expertise combined with the ability to inspire and develop a
multi-site team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Team Leadership
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 5+ mechanical engineers across 2 sites.

• Foster a positive, collaborative team atmosphere that performs consistently under tight deadlines.
Mechanical Design & Systems
• Oversee the design of intricate, high-precision mechanical systems for optical applications.
• Produce and review manufacturing drawings with strict GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and
Tolerancing) standards.
• Drive design decisions from concept through detailed design, analysis, and manufacturing support.
Cross-Functional Coordination
• Coordinate between optical design, mechanical design, and structural / thermal analysis teams.
• Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary, fast-paced engineering environment.
Procurement & Manufacturing
• Manage procurement activities
and maintain technical communication with manufacturing workshops.
• Serve as the primary technical
interface with external suppliers and subcontractors.
MUST-HAVE REQUIREMENTS
• B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from a leading university.
• 10+ years of hands-on experience in the optical or opto-mechanical field.
• 3+ years of proven experience managing a team of at least 5 engineers.
• Expert-level command of GD&T and production of manufacturing drawings.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks (SW) and PDM.
• Experience with analytical tools for thermal analysis, structural analysis, and mechanical stability.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills — ability to motivate, guide, and develop team members.
NICE-TO-HAVE
• Experience in Defense, Space, or Aerospace environments.
• Familiarity with environmental testing standards (vibration, shock, thermal vacuum).
