Original listing · kept for referenceAbout The Role
TriArts Games is looking for a Sound Designer & Engineer (Remote) to own the audio experience in DefconZero, our single-player real-time strategy game built in Unreal Engine 5.
RTS audio comes with its own set of challenges: unit acknowledgments firing at scale, dynamic mix states shifting between strategic and combat views, ambient layering across large maps, and maintaining clarity when everything is happening at once. If you've wrestled with those problems before, we'd like to talk.
What you'll do
• Design, create, and edit sound effects and audio assets that serve the game's tone and reinforce gameplay readability
• Implement and manage audio in Unreal Engine 5 using [Wwise / FMOD] - including event logic, mix states, switches, and parameter-driven behavior
• Build and maintain audio pipelines, naming conventions, and asset organization that scale with the project
• Edit and mix assets iteratively based on playtesting feedback and team direction
• Collaborate closely with design and engineering to ensure audio integrates cleanly with game systems
• Stay current with tools and techniques relevant to game audio at scale
What we're looking for
• 2+ years of shipped game audio experience, with at least one title you can point to
• Experience with audio editing software such as Cubase, Ableton, Logic.
• Strong hands-on proficiency with Wwise or FMOD, and direct experience integrating audio into Unreal Engine 5
• Deep understanding of sound design fundamentals - layering, dynamics, spatial audio, mix hierarchy
• Comfortable working in a small team where you'll own decisions end-to-end
• Strong communication skills; able to take direction and push back constructively
• Genuine interest in strategy games or simulation genres
Nice to have
• Experience on RTS or other large-scale simulation titles
• Familiarity with UE MetaSounds
• Music composition or scoring experience
• Background in audio scripting or Blueprint-level integration in UE5
Education
Bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering, Sound Design, or a related field - or equivalent professional experience and a strong portfolio.
We offer
• Real ownership of audio direction on a growing project
• A collaborative, engineering-minded team that takes craft seriously
• Career development as the studio grows
