Streaming Platform Engineer(Video Transcoding, Packaging, and Distribution)
Job Summary
Design, build, optimize and maintain a scalable media transcoding and delivery platform for both VOD and Live workflows.
The full media pipeline includes ingest, transcoding, packaging, DRM encryption, AD insertion, linear channel assembly, service/API exposure, and cloud clustered deployment.
Responsibilities
Live & VOD transcoding
Support adaptive bitrate (ABR) outputs with multiple renditions
Support mainstream codecs and formats such as H.264, H.265/HEVC, AAC, and related media standards
Optimize transcoding performance, quality, latency, and infrastructure cost
Packaging & Delivery
Implement media packaging workflows for HLS and MPEG-DASH.
Support packaging formats such as TS, fMP4, and CMAF.
Delivery HLS and MPEG-DASH streams to CDN
Linear Channel / Channel Assembly
Support VOD-to-Live, playlist/schedule-based playout, program switching, slates/filler content, and channel output generation.
Enable channel-level features such as content stitching, fallback handling, and operational control.
DRM and content protection
Design and implement integrations with DRM systems such as Widevine, PlayReady, and FairPlay.
Support key management, license service integration, and encrypted packaging workflows.
SSAI
Integrate with ad decision systems and implement server-side ad insertion for both VOD and Live workflows.
Optimize manifest manipulation, ad stitching, playback continuity, and tracking/reporting.
Cloud deployment
Provide well-designed RESTful APIs and/or gRPC APIs for external integration.
Design for clustered deployment, high availability, fault tolerance, elastic scaling, and workload distribution.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications
5+ years of experience in streaming media, video platform engineering, or media workflow systems.
Proficiency in at least one backend programming language such as Java, or C++.
Hands-on experience with FFmpeg, libx264, NV-GPU codec.
Strong knowledge of HLS and MPEG-DASH packaging and delivery.
Experience with video/audio codecs such as H.264, H.265/HEVC, AAC, and related standards.
Experience integrating DRM systems such as Widevine, PlayReady, and/or FairPlay.
Experience with SSAI, including ad decision integration, manifest manipulation, and standards such as VAST, and SCTE-35.
Experience designing and building high availability services, RESTful APIs
Preferred / Nice to Have
Experience with LL-HLS, LL-DASH, or other low-latency streaming technologies.
Experience with OTT/CTV, FAST channels, or ad-supported video platforms.
Familiarity with CDN integration, player behavior, ad tracking, QoE/QoS analytics, and playback optimization.
Experience with cloud media services on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
