Software Engineering Team Lead

Monto is looking for a Software Development Team Lead to join our engineering team and lead a growing group of talented engineers.

We are building the next generation of our platform and investing heavily in scalability, reliability, automation, and AI as we grow toward processing millions of transactions per day.

This is a hands-on leadership role for experienced full-stack engineers who combine strong technical judgment with people leadership, someone who can grow a team, set technical direction, and stay close to the code. While much of the work focuses on backend architecture and distributed systems, you should be comfortable contributing across the entire stack.

What You'll Do:

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of full-stack engineers, 1:1s, performance feedback, and career development

• Set technical direction for your team and drive execution against product and engineering goals

• Design and build end-to-end systems across backend and frontend, staying hands-on in the codebase

• Build and evolve scalable distributed systems that support high-volume transaction processing

• Help drive the evolution of our event-driven architecture, improving reliability, performance, and operational efficiency

• Improve system scalability, observability, resiliency, and fault tolerance

• Own distributed workflows, asynchronous processing, and large-scale data pipelines within your team's domain

• Lead architecture discussions, technical design reviews, and drive engineering best practices across the team

• Collaborate closely with engineering, product, customer success, and leadership teams on strategic initiatives

• Build and maintain cloud-native infrastructure and deployment workflows

• Evaluate and implement AI-powered capabilities, automations, and agent-driven workflows

Requirements:

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including experience leading or mentoring other engineers

• Proven experience managing or leading a team of engineers (formal or informal team/tech lead experience)

• Strong full-stack capabilities (backend + frontend)

• Expert-level Node.js and TypeScript experience

• Strong experience with modern frontend frameworks (React preferred)

• Proven experience building and scaling production systems

• Strong understanding of distributed systems and event-driven architectures

• Experience working with AWS and cloud-native systems

• Strong communication skills and the ability to align a team around technical direction

• Strong problem-solving and execution skills

Nice-to-Have

• Experience with AWS Serverless technologies (Lambda, EventBridge, SQS, Step Functions)

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code

• Experience integrating AI agents or LLM-powered workflows into production systems

• Experience in B2B SaaS environments

• Experience working in fast-paced startup environments
