Doctoral and Post doctoral students

A three to four-year doctoral or postdoctoral position is currently available in the laboratory of Prof. Roee Gutman, Laboratory of Integrative Physiology, Tel-Hai University, Israel (https://www.migal.org.il/en/Roee-Gutman, https://www.linkedin.com/in/roee-gutman-0889208/).

The successful candidate will lead a research project to evaluate the neuromolecular mechanisms underlying the entrainment of the endogenous circadian pacemaker to non-matching environmental photic cycles under obesogenic conditions (See our latest publication: https://doi.org/10.1096/fj.202502574RR).

We plan to explore the central cellular, molecular, and epigenetic adaptations in the master circadian pacemaker (Suprachiasmatic Nucleus, SCN) that mediate parametric entrainment. We will utilize single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) to identify cell-type-specific transcriptional shifts and clock-gene network plasticity within the SCN under varying T-cycle regimens. We will also analyze genome-wide DNA methylation patterns in the SCN to evaluate how parametric entrainment permanently reprograms intrinsic rhythmicity and aftereffects. In addition, sexual Dimorphism will be studied to resolve sex-dependent differences in circadian entrainment kinetics and SCN neurochemistry.

The successful candidate will be expected to produce first-authored papers, develop synergistic projects, and train graduate students in the lab. Applicants must have an MSc. or Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., Systems Physiology, Neurobiology, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related fields). Candidates should have hands-on experience in Big Data analysis and computational tools (e.g., R/Python, scRNA-seq pipelines, epigenetic analysis). This is a one-year full-time position with the possibility of renewal for three to four years, pending satisfactory performance. The position's start date is flexible, but we hope to employ someone by December 2026.
