R&D Team Lead

As part of the Platform Engineering transition, we are opening an internal opportunity for an R&D Team Leader to take ownership of a development team and help drive key product and engineering priorities. The exact team structure, reporting scope, and component ownership may evolve as part of the organizational changes. We're looking for someone who can operate well in a dynamic environment, take ownership quickly, and help shape the team's execution model together with R&D leadership.  ROLE MISSION The R&D Team Leader will be responsible for leading a team of engineers, driving delivery of product roadmap initiatives, improving technical quality, and ensuring strong execution across both new development and existing system ownership. This is a hands-on leadership role. The expectation is not only to manage people and priorities, but also to stay close to the technical work, contribute to design and implementation when needed, review solutions, and help the team make sound engineering decisions. BUSINESS & PRODUCT UNDERSTANDING The R&D Team Leader is expected to understand not only the technical domain, but also the business and product context behind the team's work - including MDClone's ADAMS platform, customer workflows, operational sensitivities, and the impact of engineering decisions on product delivery, customer success, stability, and long-term maintainability. As this is an internal opportunity, familiarity with MDClone's product areas, architecture, customer environments, and cross-functional ways of working will be a significant advantage. The right candidate connects roadmap priorities, customer-driven requests, legacy constraints, and modernization efforts into clear technical and execution decisions for the team. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES • Lead an R&D engineering team, including people management, prioritization, execution follow-up, and day-to-day technical leadership. • Own delivery of product roadmap features while balancing stabilization, refactoring, customer-driven work, performance, scale, and legacy ownership. • Work closely with Product, QA, DevOps/Platform, and other R&D teams to align priorities, remove blockers, and ensure predictable delivery. • Drive technical quality through design reviews, code reviews, engineering standards, and continuous improvement. • Help modernize the platform and services by supporting refactoring, microservices evolution, performance improvements, and better operational readiness. • Take ownership of production/customer-related issues within the team's domain, including root cause analysis and long-term fixes. • Mentor engineers, raise the team's technical level, and support professional growth. • Create clarity in a changing structure by helping define ownership boundaries, responsibilities, and working interfaces. TECHNICAL BACKGROUND Strong hands-on engineering experience in several of the following areas: • Java, .NET, Python, Node.js, Angular • SQL, Open Lakehouse architecture, and data-oriented backend development • Agentic workflow / AI Architecture • Strong knowledge of design patterns and software architecture • Microservices architecture • Kubernetes and modern deployment environments • Backend services, distributed systems, performance, and scale • Working in complex systems with both modern and legacy components Deep expertise in every technology is not required - but the person must have enough technical depth to lead design discussions, challenge assumptions, guide engineers, and make practical trade-offs.  REQUIRED PROFILE • Strong engineer ready to step into leadership. • Hands-on technical leader with a strong execution mindset. • High ownership, accountability, and ability to drive topics end to end. • Comfortable working in ambiguity and during organizational/team changes. • Ability to balance roadmap delivery with quality, stability, refactoring, and customer needs. • Strong understanding of MDClone's product and business context, especially ADAMS, customer usage patterns, and the operational impact of engineering decisions. • Strong collaboration skills with Product, QA, DevOps/Platform, and other engineering teams. • Good people-leadership potential: mentoring, feedback, communication, and building trust with engineers. • Pragmatic decision-maker who can prioritize under constraints.
