As Monto continues to grow, we're processing millions of transactions across hundreds of customers, and our backend systems need to scale with that growth. This is a hands-on role for an experienced engineer who enjoys designing robust, scalable services, solving complex technical challenges, and taking ownership of critical systems in a fast-paced fintech environment. You'll design and build core backend services, work closely with Product and other engineering teams, and help shape the technical foundation that powers Monto's platform.
What You'll Do
• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs that power Monto's core platform
• Take ownership of critical systems end-to-end, from architecture through deployment and monitoring
• Work closely with Product, DevOps, and other engineering teams to ship reliable, well-tested features
• Improve system performance, scalability, and reliability as transaction volumes grow
• Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical design decisions
• Help define and enforce backend engineering best practices across the team
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, with a strong focus on system stability and data integrity
Requirements
• 5+ years of experience as a backend engineer, building production-grade services at scale
• Strong proficiency in at least one backend language (e.g., Node.js, Python, Java, Go)
• Solid understanding of databases (SQL and/or NoSQL), API design, and distributed systems
• Experience designing and scaling microservices or service-oriented architectures
• Strong understanding of system design, performance optimization, and reliability engineering
• Ability to work independently, take full ownership, and execute in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally
Nice-to-Have
• Experience in B2B fintech, payments, or financial infrastructure
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) and containerized environments (Docker/Kubernetes)
