About the Role

You'll be the senior designer on a product where the interface is mostly a conversation. There's no established playbook for how an autonomous AI partner should ask permission, show its work, or stay out of the way, and you'll be writing a good part of it. You'll own the experience from a salon owner's first 60 seconds in HiO through the moment they trust it to reply on their behalf, and you'll design the loops that bring them back the next day without us asking.

This is a hands-on role. You'll work directly with product, engineering, and the founders, ship weekly, and see your work land in front of real business owners within days.

What you'll do

• Design the conversational and agent experience: how HiO speaks, what it shows, when it acts alone, and when it explicitly asks the owner to decide.

• Own onboarding end to end, from connecting the first channel to the first "approve and I'll send" moment, and keep shrinking the time to that moment.

• Design for engagement and adoption: proactive cards, daily and weekly rhythms, notifications, and the habits that turn a trial into a business that runs on HiO.

• Drive the product-led growth surfaces: signup, trial, upgrade, and the in-product moments where the value should speak for itself.

• Turn research, usage data, and support conversations into design decisions, and go talk to owners yourself when the data isn't enough.

• Build and maintain the design system so a small team can move fast without the product looking like five products.

• Write the words. Copy is a first-class part of the interface here, and you'll shape it alongside product and marketing.

• Partner closely with engineering to ship, then measure what happened and iterate.

What we're looking for

• 5+ years designing digital products, with at least one you took from early stage to real adoption.

• A portfolio showing end-to-end ownership: research, flows, interaction detail, visual craft, and the outcomes that followed.

• Strong instincts for conversational, AI-driven, or agentic interfaces, or a clear point of view on why most of them fall short.

• Experience designing onboarding, activation, and retention loops, ideally in a self-serve or PLG product.

• Comfort with data: you read funnels and session recordings, form hypotheses, and design experiments rather than opinions.

• Excellent writing. You can make a single sentence carry a screen.

• Ownership mindset: comfortable with ambiguity, quick to decide, quick to change your mind when the evidence says so.

• Experience with the SMB ecosystem is highly preferred.
