Senior Software Engineer, Backend Team

As a Senior Software Engineer at Rylo, you will play a pivotal role in shaping experiences that truly make communication accessible for people who are Deaf or hard of hearing. You will work across the stack - designing, building, and maintaining features that turn complex communication challenges into intuitive, high-performance solutions. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with strong product sense, who cares deeply about users, accessibility, performance, and scalable design.

On a Day-to-day, You Will

• Own features and systems end-to-end: from understanding the user problem, through architecture, development, and operating it in production.

• Design, build, and operate high-scale backend infrastructure serving users with real-time, low-latency requirements.

• Collaborate directly with product and engineering to shape what we build, not just how we build it.

• Dig into complex production issues - performance, reliability, data processing - and solve them under real constraints.

• Continuously improve system architecture, observability, and development practices.

• Leverage AI as part of the daily engineering work to accelerate development.

• 6+ years of experience building complex distributed backend systems in production with Go, Node.js, or Python on cloud infrastructure (GCP or AWS).

• Deep understanding of scalability, performance, system design, and cloud infrastructure.

• Strong problem-solving instincts.

• Product mindset - you think about the user, not just the system. You understand that backend decisions shape the product experience.

• You work autonomously, take ownership, and make good judgment calls without waiting for detailed specs.

• Comfortable with ambiguity - small team, big problems, no hand-holding.

• Initiative, accountability, and a proactive mindset.
