Senior Software Engineer

Description

As a Senior Backend Software Engineer on Elsight’s Compute team, you’ll design, build, and own the backend services that power reliable connectivity for unmanned and autonomous systems. This is a hands-on senior role at the intersection of backend engineering, cloud infrastructure, and production operations. You’ll make architecture decisions, take services from design through deployment and ongoing operation, and help ensure our systems remain scalable, secure, observable, and resilient across cloud and on-prem environments. You’ll work closely with Product and R&D teams, while raising the engineering bar through strong technical standards, code reviews, and mentorship.

You will…

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services, APIs, and data models that support Elsight’s products and customer deployments.

• Own services end to end — from architecture and implementation through deployment, monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement.

• Build and evolve systems that run across cloud and on-prem environments, with a strong focus on reliability, security, performance, and high availability.

• Improve our infrastructure and delivery foundations, including containerization, orchestration, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and internal developer tooling.

• Strengthen observability by defining meaningful metrics, dashboards, alerts, and SLOs, and by driving root-cause analysis and long-term fixes.

• Troubleshoot complex distributed-system, integration, and production issues using structured, hands-on problem solving.

• Contribute to architecture decisions and engineering standards, review code, create reusable patterns, and mentor other engineers.

• Collaborate closely with Product, Firmware/Hardware, and R&D stakeholders, clearly communicating technical tradeoffs and turning product needs into robust solutions.

Requirements:

Apply if you have…

• 8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, with deep expertise in designing and building production-grade backend systems.

• Strong knowledge of backend architecture, distributed systems, API design, databases, data modeling, scalability, and performance.

• Proven end-to-end ownership of services in production, including deployment, observability, debugging, incident response, and root-cause analysis.

• Hands-on experience with cloud and infrastructure technologies such as AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code.

• Experience supporting systems across cloud and on-prem environments; familiarity with high-availability or multi-cloud architectures is a strong advantage.

• Strong programming skills in a modern backend language. Experience with Go or Rust is highly valued; Python is also relevant, and C/C++ is an advantage.

• Experience building SaaS, platform, security, cyber, SRE, or other mission-critical systems where reliability and operational excellence matter.

• Strong system-level understanding, including Linux, networking, security best practices, IAM, and secrets management.

• A track record of making pragmatic architecture decisions, writing high-quality code, reviewing others’ work, and mentoring engineers.

• Clear communication, strong cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to explain complex technical tradeoffs to different audiences.

• An ownership-driven, curious, and quality-focused mindset, with the ability to work independently and solve ambiguous problems in a fast-moving R&D environment.
