About the Role The Dispute Team owns what happens after a chargeback lands. We build Dispute Resolve and the Chargeback Management System (CBMS): the platform through which merchants and Riskified's own dispute operators receive chargebacks, decide whether to fight them, generate compelling evidence, submit it to the bank through payment gateways, and track the outcome to financial close. Our domain is the full dispute lifecycle: pre-dispute alerts, chargeback ingestion and order matching, a rules-based representment decision engine, evidence generation (templated and LLM-based), gateway submission, second chargebacks and arbitration, and reimbursement when Riskified carries the liability. Under the hood this is an event-driven system of Scala and TypeScript (NestJS) microservices on Kafka, backed by CockroachDB and Elasticsearch, with a React console on top. This role requires strong technical execution paired with genuine curiosity about how card-network disputes work. What You'll Be Doing • Build the dispute platform : Design, develop, and maintain the services that ingest chargebacks, decide on representment, generate evidence, and submit disputes to payment gateways, with the reliability a money-moving flow demands. • Drive AI into compelling evidence : Extend our LLM-based evidence generation, turning a per-category, per-gateway problem into one AI capability that scales across dispute types and providers. • Embrace modern workflows : Actively use agentic coding tools and AI-assisted workflows to raise team velocity and code quality. • Bridge tech and business: Partner with Product, dispute operations, and payments domain experts to translate card-network rules, liability logic, and merchant configuration into clean software architecture. • Own production end to end : Ship daily through modern CI/CD, own the health of your services in production, and investigate real merchant cases when a chargeback did not go where it should have. • Shape the roadmap : Take an active part in planning the team's roadmap and products. Qualifications • B.Sc. in Computer Science or equivalent certifications • 3+ years of proven experience in hands-on server-side coding • Proven experience with server-side development languages, such as TypeScript, Scala, Java, C#, or Kotlin • Hands-on experience in a recent frontend framework (React, Vue, etc.) • Proven experience in full-stack development, with proficiency in both frontend and backend technologies • Strong business context orientation with the capacity to understand domain workflows in risk, fintech, or eCommerce • Demonstrated experience building APIs, microservices, and integration layers with databases (SQL/NoSQL) and cloud services (AWS/GCP) • Passionate about leveraging AI coding assistants and agentic tools in daily development workflows • Experience incorporating LLMs or agentic frameworks directly into customer-facing products - advantage • Independent self-learner, proactive problem solver, and strong team player Life at Riskified We are a fast-growing and dynamic tech company with 750+ team members globally.
