VP R&D – Semiconductor Devices

A well-funded deep-tech semiconductor company with established long-term customers is seeking a VP R&D to lead the technological strategy and execution of a small, multidisciplinary team of engineers and researchers developing novel high-power, high-frequency transistor devices.

The ideal candidate will take the technology from prototype development through to an industrialized, high-performance product — spanning ideation, architecture, design, simulation, layout delivery to fab, microfabrication process development, electrical characterization, data analysis, and packaging.

Responsibilities:

• Lead device product engineering and team execution in a project-management capacity across a multidisciplinary device team

• Define device product process flows, FAB qualification procedures, and their execution

• Define strategic product application implementation, working closely with the CTO and CEO

• Prioritize and track team responsibilities and deliverables on a tight schedule while managing risk and resource allocation

• Coordinate the technology team's tasks across disciplines

• Review and approve device fabrication process flows for execution

• Review and supervise device performance characterization

• Manage technology equipment, systems, and infrastructure capabilities

Requirements:

• Deep experience with microfabrication devices and transistor design, modeling, and packaging (required)

• Experience working in a high-pace, demanding startup environment (required)

• Strong project management skills with a track record of driving high-pace execution on tight schedules (required)

• Experience leading engineers and researchers (required)

• 4+ years designing and fabricating devices in clean rooms

• Transistor design experience (FET, TFT, or CMOS)

• Strong device physics, design, fabrication, and characterization knowledge

• Experience with semiconducting materials such as GaN, Si, metal oxides, or other wide-bandgap materials

• MSc to PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline

• Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills

Preferred:

• Experience with high-power FETs or RF FETs

• Silicon-on-insulator experience

• Analog or digital circuit design experience

• Experience leading novel technology projects with direct end-customer involvement

• Simulation software skills (ANSYS, TCAD, COMSOL, or similar)

• Background in control systems
